Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During an attack he organized a party of stretcher bearers, and repeatedly went forward through a heavy barrage to bring in casualties. He did excellent work on many occasions, and set a splendid example to his comrades by his courage and resource.'
