Military Medal

'On morning of 9th October, 1917, during attack east of ZONNEBEKE this man was engaged on stretcher bearer work. Regardless of the continuous heavy enemy shelling and the extremely muddy conditions he worked incessantly for 48 hours collecting and carrying the wounded. On several occasions his stretcher mates were wounded and put out of action and he showed remarkable gallantry and coolness in continuing without heed to his own safety. By this demonstration of courage and determination he set a splendid example to those working with him and saved many lives.'
