War service: Egypt, Gallipoli, Western Front Embarked Brisbane on HMAT 'Aeneas', 29 June 1915. Embarked Alexandria to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, 4 September 1915. 'Complimented as rendering good service by staunchly remaining at his post with supply of bombs ready for use when required by the patrol in charge', Gallipoli Peninsula, 29 October 1915; temporarily promoted to rank of Sergeant, Gallipoli Peninsula, 18 November 1915; reverts to previous rank at own request, Mudros, 24 December 1915; disembarked Alexandria from HMT 'Hororata', 9 January 1916 (general Gallipoli evacuation). Found guilty, 21 August 1916, of drunkenness whilst on active service: awarded 14 days' Field Punishment No 1; rejoined unit in the field, 24 August 1916. Wounded in action, 25 August 1916; admitted to 4th Field Ambulance, 26 August 1916; transferred to 49th Casualty Clearing Station, 1 September 1916, and admitted to 1st Australian General Hospital, 1 September 1916 (gun shot wound, back). Proceeded to England on HS 'St Patrick', 5 September 1916; admitted to 3rd London General Hospital, Wandsworth, 13 September 1916 (gun shot wound, back). Died of wounds, 14 September 1916.
