Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the advance near LE VERQUIER on the 18th/19th September, 1918. He was actively engaged laying telephone lines to forward Battalion Headquarters. It was due to Private WARDELL-JOHNSON's untiring energy and coolness that forward Battalion Headquarters were able to get quickly in touch with the rear. Whilst laying these lines Private WARDELL-JOHNSON was severely wounded but he carried on until forward Battalion Headquarters was established when he had to be evacuated owing to the severity of his wound. The great bravery displayed by Private WARDELL-JOHNSON greatly inspired the section to which he belonged.'
