Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty under very trying circumstances. When his dressing station was subjected to heavy shell fire, and shells were bursting above and around the operating tent, with great promptness and at imminent personal risk he superintended and effected the transfer of the tent and its wounded inmates to a protected position. But for his gallant and timely action the lives of many of the wounded would have been lost.'
