'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in re-organizing his platoon after the officer had been killed. When the advance was checked by an enemy post he rushed forward, bombed the machine gun, and captured fifteen prisoners. His dash and determination materially contributed to the establishment of our line in its new position.'
