'At DEMICOURT on 9th April 1917 for gallantry in action. Pte. WARNE acted as a runner, and though exposed to heavy enemy shell fire, he never failed to get through with all reports both by day and by night during the operations against the village. He also did excellent work in leading parties carrying stores to their respective dumps in the firing line.'
