Military Medal 'This soldier worked continuously as a volunteer stretcher bearer in the face of deadly machine gun fire during the 10th and 11th August 1918 and undoubtedly saved many lives. His skill and cheery courage in dealing with our wounded was of the greatest assistance while his utter disregard for self and his splendid unselfishness in frequently risking his life to aid his wounded comrades were an inspiration to all about.'
