Proceeded from Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 7 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 14 June 1916. Taken on strength, 15th Bn, 20 July 1916.

Wounded in action, 10 August 1916; admitted to 14th General Hospital, Wimereux (gun shot wound, left thigh). Transferred to England, 18 August 1916; admitted to Bradford War Hospital, 19 August 1916 (forefinger amputated, right hand). Transferred to No. 1 Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 5 October 1916. Discharged from hospital, 16 October 1916, and granted furlough to 30 October 1916.

Commenced return to Australia from Portland on board HT 'Wiltshire', 12 November 1916; discharged, 26 May 1917.
