Military Medal 'For conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty. During the operations on 4th October, 1917 and on the following days this N.C.O. was in charge of the Horse Ambulance Wagons of the Unit, and carried wounded from WESTHOEK RIDGE and BELLEWARDE RIDGE to BIRR CROSS ROADS. He repeatedly, during heavy enemy shelling, took his wagons round the circuit, and got wounded away from the BELLEWARDE STATION under the most difficult, dangerous and at times, well nigh impossible conditions. He worked continuously for 48 hours, organising parties to get horse wagons, which had got off the narrow, slippery sleeper road, on again, and his continuous bravery and resource were largely responsible for absence of blocking in the evacuation of stretcher cases.'
