Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during operations of 26th, 27th and 28th August 1918 which resulted in the capture of FOUCAUCOURT and the advancing of our line beyond ESTREES. Prior to the attack on the village this N.C.O. led a bombing party against an enemy machine-gun post which was proving troublesome. His party came under heavy machine gun fire, but he continued to lead his men with fine dash and succeeded in dislodging the enemy and capturing the gun. This made the way clear for a patrol to move through to ascertain the disposition of the enemy. After the village had been captured he led a reconnoitring patrol which succeeded in obtaining very valuable information regarding the movements of the enemy. he displayed great coolness throughout the whole action and set a splendid example to his platoon.'
