Military Medal

'For conspicuous bravery and courage during the attack on the HINDENBURG LINE on 18th September 1918 near LE VERGUIER North West of ST. QUENTIN. While in charge of packhorses although subjected to exceptionally heavy enemy Machine Gun Fire, this driver displayed such coolness and discretion in the handling of the horses that he ensured the delivery of the ammunition. Packhorses in other places were killed and it was owing to the skilful manner in which this man led his horses that no casualties resulted. Throughout, his coolness and initiative set a fine example to the men.'
