Military Medal 'During the attack on enemy trenches in front of MORLANCOURT on the night 10/11th June, 918 Sapper WEIDNER was acting in the capacity of runner and assisting to lay out tapes in the wake of the assault. At a quarter of an hour after zero Sapper WEIDNER left the original front line and with the engineer officer ran out a tape marking a route to the final objective. Returning to the old front he assisted in running out a second tape to the objective and in securing a prisoner. Sapper WEIDNER then guided a party out to the strong point and later accompanied the engineer officer on a reconnaissance of the whole sector front. The whole of these works which were of an extremely arduous character were carried out under severe harassing fire of enemy barrage, snipers and machine guns. Throughout the operation Sapper WEIDNER presented a splendid example of coolness, courage and endurance most inspiring to all in contact with him.'
