Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry when holding a portion of a captured trench against a bomb ing attack. He was in the act of throwing when he was severely wounded in the head and fell forward. He shouted to his comrades "The pin is out." Thanks to his presence of mind his comrades escaped unhurt.'
