Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on the night of 24/25th June, 1918,. He was first driver on the second of 2 lorries detailed to stand by at the Cross Roads 1000 yards west of Petit See Bois to wait for fatigue party working for "L" Special Company R.E. During the heavy enemy barrage which opened up on the cross-roads where he was parked up, he remained at his post ready to move his lorry as directed by the N.C.O. in charge. After moving for the second time a shell fell very close and wounded himself and his second driver, the latter very seriously. Disregarding personal safety he then commenced to render first aid to members of the fatigue party who were wounded and obtained assistance to place the wounded in the back of his lorry together with the remainder of the fatigue party. He then drove his lorry down the road and shortly afterwards the wounded were transferred to an ambulance. Although suffering from shock and slight wounds to his leg, he drove his lorry and delivered the party to their camp at La KREULE. His lorry was then handed over to another driver and he was taken to a dressing station. By his courage and devotion to duty he without doubt saved his lorry and greatly assisted in getting the wounded men to a place of safety.'
