Military Medal 'For gallantry and devotion to duty. During the operations of September 29th in the attack on BONY and on the Hindenburg Line. In conjunction with No. 999 Private SYPOTT John, this man was a Runner between Battalion and Company Office, and carried messages backward and forward continuously during the day and night under heavy machine gun and artillery fire. It was mainly through the untiring efforts of this man that information was brought back to the Battalion at a time when the situation was obscure. During the following three days this man was untiring in his efforts to bring back information, and showed coolness and determination worthy of recognition.'
