Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when in charge of stretcher-bearers. He displayed the greatest ability in keeping touch with the aid post and in clearing the wounded, twice taking his bearers through a heavy barrage for that purpose. His pluck and determination were beyond all praise.'
