Military Medal

'For gallantry and devotion to duty. Near VILLERS CARBONNEL on 29th August 1918 a platoon was advancing to establish posts on the SOMME. The enemy opened up a heavy fire with artillery and Machine Guns. One section was wiped out and the wounded were lying in the open. Then enemy kept up a concentrated fire, and in face of it these men went out to assist their wounded comrades. They succeeded in bringing all to safety and exhibited marked coolness and courage throughout.'
