'On the night of 12th May, 1918 this N.C.O. was one of a patrol of two sent to reconnoitre a position at MORLANCOURT near Albert. The position of the Battalion on the flank had not been definitely determined, and twice this patrol found themselves among Hun posts. They finally located the neighbouring post, and then took members of the garrison from each post over the intervening ground. Afterwards they again went forward to an advanced Hun post, and discovered a Machine Gun mounted for firing, with the crew temporarily absent. Lance Corporal R.V. WILD brought the gun into our lines and gave much valuable information about a position which had been obscure.'
