Military Medal

'For extreme devotion to duty and bravery at RIFLE FARM near WYTSCHAETE during operations 13 August 1917. This soldier volunteered as Stretcher bearer to bring some wounded British soldiers in from NO MANS LAND under enemy machine gun fire. he succeeded in doing this but his mate was wounded. After which he brought in a wounded man alone and went out again and brought his mate in. Throughout the operations he displayed exceptional endurance and apart from his ordinary work volunteered for and carried out all kinds of work outside his sphere.'
