Embarked, Thursday Island, 16 August 1914, to take part in the capture of German New Guinea; returned to Townsville, 18 September 1914; on account of the trouble caused by the firemen on troopship; discharged, 18 September 1914; re-enlisted as a Private in the Australian Imperial Force, 17 September 1914.

Embarked, Melbourne, 22 December 1914; proceeded to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, Gallipoli Peninsula, 12 April 1915.

Admitted to Hospital Ship 'Gascon' (gun shout wound to the head, fractures), 10 May 1915; admitted to Ras-el-Tin Hospital, Alexandria, Egypt, 19 May 1915; transferred to England, 24 June 1915; last paid in London (in reply to letter of enquiry), 31 November 1915.

Embarked, Portland, England, for return to Australia per H.T. 'Themistocles', 8 May 1916; discharged, Brisbane, 12 July 1916.
