Military Medal 'During the operations south of PASSCHENDAELE on 26th October, 1917 he was one of a party engaged on the construction of a strong point in the line of the final objective of the attack. To reach the site he conducted the carrying party of which he was in charge over three miles of almost impasible country under heavy shell fire. On reaching the site he soon had his party at work on their tasks which he ably and gallantly supervised throughout the day, the work coming under continuous shell fire. His sustained cheerfulness and devotion to duty and example of self sacrifice contributed in no small degree to the successful completion of a valuable defensive work.'
