War service: Western Front Embarked Sydney, 7 October 1916; disembarked Plymouth, England, 21 November 1916. Proceeded overseas to France, 21 December 1916; taken on strength, 55th Bn, in the field, 8 February 1917. Detached to Signal School, 24 June 1917; rejoined Bn, 5 July 1917. Admitted to 14th Field Ambulance, 1 September 1917 (scabies), and transferred to 5th Division Scabies School; discharged to unit, 14 September 1917. On leave, 6 February 1918; rejoined Bn from leave, 22 February 1918. Detached to Divisional Signal School, 17 March 1918; rejoined Bn, 25 March 1918. Wounded in action, and remained at duty, 19 May 1918. On leave to United Kingdom, 26 November 1918; rejoined Bn from leave, 13 December 1918. Admitted to 14th Field Ambulance, 18 December 1918 (lumbago), and transferred to 41st Casualty Clearing Station; discharged to duty, 22 December 1918. Marched out to England for return to Australia, 30 April 1919; marched in to No 5 Group, Weymouth, 1 May 1919. Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Orita', 23 June 1919.
