War service: Egypt, Western Front Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 7 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 14 June 1916. Taken on strength, 16th Bn, 19 August 1916. Admitted to 5th Australian Field Ambulance, 7 December 1916 (pyrexia, unknown origin); transferred same day to 36th Casualty Clearing Station; to Ambulance Train No 11, 9 December 1916, and admitted to 11th General Hospital, Camiers, 10 December 1916 (bronchial catarrh); transferred to England, 23 December 1916, and admitted to 3rd Australian General Hospital, Brighton, 24 December 1916 (bronchitis); discharged to duty with Australian Army Medical Corps, 3rd AGH, 3 March 1917. Transferred to AAMC, 7 April 1917. Found guilty, 28 April 1917, No 2 Camp, Parkhouse, of being absent without leave from 2400, 24 April, to 1600, 27 April 1917: awarded 7 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeited a total of 10 days' pay.
