Military Medal 'At MORLANCOURT on night 28/29th July 1918. For bravery and devotion to duty. After his Company had taken their final objective he displayed the greatest constancy and devotion to duty in the performance of his duties as a Company Signaller. When his Company was out of touch with advanced Battalion Headquarters, except by runner, owing to the advance, he laboured for five hours in laying a Line back to Battalion Headquarters, receiving no assistance and having to salve a quantity of the wire used. He carried out his duty under a continuous heavy enemy barrage of shells of all calibre including many 5.9's. On his return to Company headquarters he again set out and with an assistant, repaired the wire leading from his own Company to the Company on the left flank, again working constantly under a heavy barrage, and although wet through and covered in mud from the Saps and Trenches, on his return he immediately took his shift at the telephone. He was the means of establishing and maintaining communication throughout.'
