'On the 22nd August, 1918, near BRAY SUR SOMME, Sergeant WILLIAMS was in charge of a party repairing the BRAY CORBIE Road, when the enemy counter attacked and very heavily shelled the road and repeatedly machine gunned the party from aeroplanes. Nevertheless, this N.C.O. kept his party working and completed the repairs, giving an example of noteworthy courage and determination in the face of great difficulty.'
