Proceeded from Alexandria to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, Gallipoli, 2 February 1915.

Wounded in action, 25 April 1915 (hip). Admitted to 2nd Australian General Hospital, Cairo, 26 May 1915; to Overseas Base, Mustapha, 3 August 1915; to Australian & New Zealand Base, Mudros West, 28 August 1915. Appointed Quartermaster Sergeant, Advanced Base, Mudros, 11 December 1915. Attached to Overseas Base, Serapeum, Egypt, after withdrawal from Mudros (general Gallipoli evacuation), 7 January 1916.

Admitted to 3rd Auxiliary Hospital, Abbassia, 15 May 1916; transferred to No 1 Auxiliary Hospital, Heliopolis, 12 June 1916 (rheumatism).

Commenced return to Australia from Suez on board HT 'Clan McGillivray', 10 July 1916; disembarked Sydney (date not recorded); discharged (medically unfit), 8 September 1916.
