Transferred to 5th Pioneer Bn, Tel-el-Kebir, 3 March 1916.

Admitted to 15th Field Ambulance, Ferry Post, 11 May 1916 (pulmunory tubercolosis); transferred to No 2 Australian Casualty Clearing Station, 16 May 1916; to No 1 Australian Stationary Hospital, Ismailia, 18 May 1916; to No 3 Auxiliary Hospital, Heliopolis, 23 May 1916; to No 1 Auxiliary Hospital, 12 June 1916; discharged for return to Australia, 10 July 1916.

Commenced return to Australia from Suez on board HT 'Clan McGillivray', 10 July 1916; disembarked Melbourne, 14 August 1916.

Returned to duty, 26 August 1916; declared an illegal absentee, 29 August 1916.
