Military Medal 'This N.C.O. was in charge of this Straggler and Traffic Post duty at BIRR Cross Roads - MENIN Road from the 20th September 1917. He was on continuous duty for 72 hours and frequently under heavy shell fire. On one occasion when a motor lorry was hit at the cross roads he collected a party and under very heavy shell fire managed to clear the road at once, thereby preventing what would otherwise have been a serious congestion of traffic at a most crucial point of the MENIN Road.'
