Distinguished Conduct Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When in charge of a Stokes mortar he displayed great courage and coolness in handling his gun during an enemy counter attack. In spite of very heavy hostile shelling, he maintained a continuous fire from his mortar, doing much execution among the enemy. His gallantry and daring have been conspicuous on many occasions, and he has set a fine example to his men.'
