'On 29th/30th September and 1st October 1918 during attacks on LE CATELET-NAUROY LINE, NAUROY and SUGAR FACTORY east of NAUROY. For his splendid courage, coolness in action and devotion to duty. Employed as a runner when all other means of communication were destroyed he carried despatches for three days without a rest under heavy Artillery and Machine Gun fire. His courage and daring were the means of keeping his Battalion Headquarters in close touch with the front line Companies during a critical situation. His example was a splendid one and his actions were of the utmost value to his O.C.'
