War service: embarked from Australia, 28 May 1915. Proceeded to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, Gallipoli Peninsula, 4 September 1915. Sustained serious leg wounds, 15 September 1915; admitted to 1st Australian Casualty Clearing station and transferred to hospital ship. Evacuated to England on board Hospital Ship 'Aquitania'; disembarked England, 28 September 1915, and admitted to 5th Southern General Hospital, Portsmouth. Right leg amputated, 28 September 1915. Commenced return to Australia on board 'Themistocles', 8 May 1916; disembarked Melbourne, 19 June 1916. Discharged, 28 July 1916. Granted a pension of 3 pounds per fortnight as from 29 July 1916.
