Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty while reconnoitring a road for artillery. Accompanied only by a N.C.O., he rushed a party of twenty of the enemy with a machine gun, killing two and capturing the remainder and the gun. He then returned for his party, and made the road good for artillery. He behaved splendidly.'
