War service: Western Front GWF Embarked Alexandria to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, Gallipoli, 5 April 1915. Wounded in action, 25 April 1915 (gun shot wound, arm); transferred to Malta; returned to duty, Gallipoli, 16 May 1915. Admitted to No 2 Field Ambulance, 26 August 1915 (diarrhoea), and transferred same day to No 1 Casualty Clearing Station; to No 1 Australian General Hospital, Cairo, 1 September 1915 (enteritis). Commenced return to Australia from Suez on board HS 'Ceramic', 25 September 1915. Re-embarked Melbourne, 23 November 1915, on board HMAT A 40 'Ceramic'. Allotted to and proceeded to join 59th Bn, Tel el Kebir, 26 February 1916, and reverted to the ranks. Appointed Lance Corporal, Ferry Post, 27 March 1916. Promoted Corporal, Moascar, 27 May 1916. Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 18 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 29 June 1916. Detached to School of Instruction, 12 July 1916; rejoined Bn, 16 July 1916.
