Embarked Sydney, 7 February 1917; disembarked Devonport, England, 11 April 1917, and marched in to 5th Training Bn, Rollestone.

Found guilty, Rollestone, 6 July 1917, of being absent without leave from 9 am, 1 July, to 4.30 pm, 3 July: awarded 3 days' confined to camp and forfeited total of 8 days' pay.

Proceeded overseas to France, 9 October 1917; marched in to 2nd Australian Divisional Base Depot, Havre; joined 20th Bn, 15 October 1917.

Found guilty, 22 April 1918, of while on Active Service drunkenness, 4 April 1918: awarded forfeiture of 1 day's pay.

Wounded in action, 3 October 1918 (gassed), and admitted to 58th Casualty Clearing Station, and then to Ambulance Train; admitted to 12th General Hospital, Rouen, 4 October 1918; to No 2 Convalescent Depot, Rouen, 9 October 1918; to Australian Infantry Base Depot, Havre, 11 October 1918; rejoined unit, 16 October 1918.

Admitted to French Hospital, Jouville-la-Pout, 16 December 1918 (influenza); transferred to Base, 1 January 1919; to 7th Canadian General Hospital, 3 January 1919; to No 3 Base Depot, 12 January 1919; to 'J' Infantry Base Depot, Etaples, 13 January 1919; rejoined unit, 17 January 1919.

On leave to Paris, 7 February 1919; rejoined unit from leave, 17 February 1919.

Detached for duty with Graves Registration Detachment, 25 March 1919. Appointed Temporary Corporal, 27 March 1919.
