Distinguished Conduct Medal

'For gallantry and devotion to duty for nearly three years, notably during the operations commencing 29 September, 1918, when employed on road construction and bridge building under heavy shell fire. He personally unloaded a very dangerous mine at Avesnes-Sans du Nord, and set a fine example to his men.'
