Military Medal 'On 1st September 1918 during the attack on PERONNE this N.C.O. succeeded with the utmost despatch in delivering messages to Company Commanders. On three different occasions he had to negotiate intense shell and Machine Gun barrages, at times having to crawl considerable distances. He displayed conspicuous gallantry, judgment and devotion to duty, and his anxiety and willingness to go forward were remarkable. On 2nd September 1918 during the second attack and although suffering from the effects of gas this N.C.O. repeatedly carried messages to the front line Companies and always brought back very valuable information regarding the situation, obtained through his personal observation. On the night of 2nd /3rd September he acted as a guide for the relief of the Battalion by the 59th Battalion, and in the absence through casualties of Officers carried out the relief of 'B' Company on his own initiative. I cannot speak too highly of this N.C.O.'s remarkable work, his bravery and willingness to go forward, although suffering from gas in the later stages, and strongly recommend him for the Military Medal.'
