Military Medal

'In front of FLEURBAIX on the night 30th September/1st October, 1916, this N.C.O. participated in a raid on a strong point in the German trenches north of BAS MAISNIL. He displayed great bravery and devotion to duty throughout. On entering the enemy trenches he encountered a German, and after a struggle, killed him. He examined and gained valuable information about a listening post in the enemy wire and destroyed a machine gun emplacement. His conduct was exemplary.'
