Meritorious Service Medal 'His Majesty the King has been graciously pleased to approve of the award of the Meritorious Service Medal for devotion to duty during an epidemic in a Prisoners of War Camp, Germany.' Second description reads: 'Whilst a prisoner of war in GERMANY and during an outbreak of Spanish fever in a prison camp, he worked night and day to relieve the sick, and on all occasions whilst there was any sickness amongst the men, did all he could to alleviate their sufferings in spite of strong enemy opposition. In addition he secured bandages, medicine, etc., from the Germans to treat the sick. These exertions continued over a period of 12 months.'
