'At HOOGE, FRANCE on 20th September, 1917 during the operations on GLENCORSE and POLYGONVELDE WOODS, L/Cpl. WOOD led his Section into action and captured an enemy Strong Point, containing about 20 of the enemy whom he took prisoners, and later when the final objective was won did splendid work in consolidation. This N.C.O. was wounded during the operations but bravely held on until the Battalion was relieved. His courage and disregard for danger proved him to be a reliable N.C.O. and his services and untiring energy are deserving of the highest praise.'
