Admitted to 1st Australian Dermatological Hospital, Bulford, 27 August 1917 (venereal disease); discharged Convalescent Training Depot, Bulford, 8 September 1917 (total period of treatment for venereal disease: 13 days); marched into No 1 Command Depot, Perham Downs, 15 September 1917; marched into Pioneer Training Bn, Fovant, 20 September 1917. Proceeded to France through Southampton, 12 February 1918; marched into Australian Infantry Base Depot, Havre, 13 February 1918; marched out, 14 February 1918; taken on strength by 1st Pioneer Battalion, 18 February 1918. Transferred to 6th Battalion and taken on strength, 9 September 1918; proceeded to United Kingdom on leave, 10 February 1919; rejoined unit, 2 March 1919. Detached for duty with Australian Brigade Reception Camp No 3, 22 May 1919. Proceeded to England, 6 June 1919; disembarked Southampton, 7 June 1919, and marched into No 2 Group.

Commenced return to Australia on HT 'Ulysees', 22 July 1919; disembarked Sydney 5 September 1919. Discharged, 9 February 1920.
