Taken on strength of HS 'Kanowna', as Ward Assistant, 22 December 1915. 'Domestics' were not trained nurses, and pressure from the Australian Trained Nurses Association led to the group of 14 domestic staff, of whom Brockway was one, being discharged on the ship's return to Australia from Egypt.
