Military Medal 'On 9th April, 1918, near MERICOURT, west of ALBERT, the vicinity of their Battery position was heavily shelled, and the telephone wire to Brigade Headquarters cut in several places. Gunners HARDWICKE and WOODWARD were battery linesmen, and on three occasions went out and repaired the line under continuous and heavy shell fire, thereby enabling telephone communication to be maintained between Headquarters and the Battery, which could thus be employed in important neutralising fire. Both showed a fine example of performane of duty under great danger.'
