Military Medal

'For conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty as N.C.O. in charge of stretcher bearers during the recent advance north-east of LE BARQUE on the 25th and 26th February, 1917. He showed an utter disregard for his own safety, and went about collecting wounded and conveying them to places of safety under heavy artillery and machine gun fire. He set a splendid example of personal courage to the men under his charge.'
