Meritorious Service Medal 'On 25th September 1917, in Battle of POLYGON WOOD, he displayed conspicuous gallantry in rendering first aid to the wounded. he continually moved along the trench, which was partially blown in, and in doing so left himself exposed to heavy shell fire. he displayed a total disregard of his own life and through his courage the lives of many were saved.'
