'Whilst the 113th Battery was in action east of WESTHOEK, near YPRES, on the 30th October, 1917, No. 3379 Driver Charles Edmond WRIGHT was engaged in packing ammunition to the Battery position and was in charge of a convoy of 10 men and pack animals. As is usual the WESTHOEK corduroy road was being heavily shelled by the enemy and Driver WRIGHT's two horses were killed under him whilst he himself sustained a slight wound. Notwithstanding this, he continued to lead his convoy and eventually picked up two stray horses and utilised them for the remainder of his tour of duty. His leadership, coupled with his cheerful manner has always been instrumental in arousing his comrades to carry out their dangerous work under most adverse conditions and the example he has set has always been one which has inspired his comrades. His devotion to duty and excellent example are deserving of special recognition. Awarded Military Medal 19th November, 1917.'
