'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during an attack. He was in charge of two guns with the front wave of infantry. Seeing the advance held up by fire from an enemy strong point, he rushed his guns about 100 yards forward, came into action, and neutralized this fire, thus allowing the infantry to advance. Throughout he employed his guns with great skill and effect.'
