Military Medal 'The conduct of this soldier is brought to notice for conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in an attack on LE VERGUIER on the 18th September 1918. This soldier was attached to the Stokes Trench Mortar Battery to carry per mule Stokes ammunition to the advancing line. Notwithstanding heavy enemy artillery fire and machine gun activity at close range he led his mule forward with the advancing infantry to the furthest objective, a distance of about 5,000 yards. His gallant conduct in carrying forward with his mule and its indispensable ammunition resulted in enemy machine gun nests that could not be engaged with artillery fire being neutralised by trench mortars.'
