Military Medal

'During the operations east of YPRES on 4th October 1917, he was attached to a section of 1st Field company employed on the construction of a strong point on BECELAERE RIDGE. As the senior N.C.O. of the Infantry party he gave most vaaluable assistance to the officer in charge of the work, in supervising his men and in keeping up a very high standard of discipline during the operations. He set a splendid example of courage and devotion to duty and by his personality was able to encourage his men to their utmost to get the job finished.'
