Other details from Roll of Honour Circular | Born 11 January 1888. Enlisted in A.I.F. on 8 January 1915 and was posted to 5th Reinforcements 7th Light Horse Regiment on 6 August 1915. Promoted to Sergeant 13 August 1915 and S.S.M on 14 November 1915. Returned to Australia on 20 January 1916 and re-embarked for Egypt on 12 August 1916. Discharged from A.I.F. to Royal Flying Corps (R.F.C.) on 20 February 1917 as a Second Lieutenant. Became a Pilot Officer on 9 April 1917 posted to No.37 Reserve Squadron. Despatched to France 2 June 1917 and posted to No.9 Squadron on 5 June 1917. Served on temporary duty with No.27 Squadron from 27 June to 2 July 1917. Was transferred to no.21 Squadron as Captain and Flight Commander on 21 September 1917. Wounded in the face on 4 October 1917 but returned to duty 5 October 1917. Killed in action 23 December 1917. Awarded the Military Cross (London Gazette 26 September 1917), and two Bars, (first on 27 October 1917 and second on 4 February 1918, posthumously). All gazetted. |
